Summary
Mother was written and published originally in an anthology titled A House Party: An account of stories told at a gathering of famous authors. Wister published the short story in 1907, adding approximately 25% new material at the beginning in order to adequately introduce the story. Owen Wister was best known for his western story The Virginian.

| 0:45.0 | This story, Mother, is about a young couple living in New York who wish to marry, |

| 0:54.6 | The groom to be luckily inherits a large sum, and intends to invest it wisely in order to |

| 1:06.3 | portion of his money and dubious investments. His wife to be has a more objective view of the situation |

| 1:19.3 | to be able to marry. This short story provides considerable insight into the financial and social |

| 1:28.8 | quarter century that preceded the stock market crash of 1929. So it's a great history lesson for that time of our history |
