Good evening. This is the Mormon newscast. Today's date is June 23rd, 2025. I'm Radio Free Mormon. We have breaking news out of Africa. We go to Rebecca Biblioteca for the story.

Thank you, RFM. If you can pull up my slides there, Bill. I had to kind of insert these at the very last minute. And it's actually a very

unfortunate story. Probably over the last couple days, you guys have been hearing about a sort

of a bus crash happening as some young women tried to attend something in an African kingdom.

And nobody really knew the details. There were some statements put out on the

church website about it, offering condolences, but no one knew. I tried to kind of look around and see

what exactly the details were, because I thought if they're not sharing them, you know, my fear,

of course, was that they were pretty tragic. And I was not wrong. Just an hour or so ago

in the Tribune, Peggy Fletcher Stack put down an article with the headline, 10 LDS girls died on their

way to a church activity in Africa. So I threw that up on the slide. And then in just double

checking a few minutes before the newscast, I saw that they had changed the title.

I think the situation is in flux as a lot of people are in the hospital.

And this one says nine LDS girls, two adults, which would be the leaders, killed in a crash on their way to a church activity in Africa.

And this is exactly what happened.

There were 26 girls and two, you know, and leaders altogether in a vehicle, a bus,

trying to go to the Capitol for a young women's activity, sort of a conference.

And there was a crash, a multi-vehicle crash and a fire.

And it looks like the new numbers, nine LDS girls, two adults, nine or ten hospitalized, some released.

But it is just the most tragic thing as the details unfold.

And there are two million people in this country in Africa.

And there are 2,000 members of the church, it says in the article.

And I believe all of these are from one ward.
