Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking is Fitness, a daily 10-minute podcast designed to provide you with a little added motivation to get out the door and take the walk.

0:15.0

Today's 10-minute walk starts right after this.

It is a foggy morning in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In fact, the fog is getting thicker since I left the house. I'm walking along a trail which is probably three, maybe four-tenths

0:43.8

1:47.6

and then spend the rest of the day sitting, it's almost like that exercise never happened.

1:56.2

And so the math that I've been doing is let's take a look at the 24 hours we spend each day.

2:03.6

We'll assume eight hours for sleeping, so now we're down to 16 hours.

2:08.6

If you walk 20,000 steps, and most people, whether you walk or not, would say the 20,000 steps is a lot,

2:18.3

and you gotta be super healthy.

2:20.7

If you're walking 20,000 steps a day,

2:22.5

that's like super healthy stuff.

2:27.9

It takes about four hours a day to walk 20,000 steps.
