including Stephanie, one of my amazing Patreon supporters, asked me to re-release this classic

2019 interview about the assassination of President James Garfield. And I am very happy to do that

today. A lot of you probably already know that Candace Millard's book, Destiny of the Republic, was recently

adapted into the new Netflix series Death by Lightning. I'm about halfway through it right now

at the time I'm recording this, and I'm planning to stick with it. It's definitely getting a

lot of attention and pretty solid reviews,

which is great. We always need more history books turn into TV shows and movies. I think anyway.

Now, I'm going to be honest, it's not totally my cup of tea that this adaptation, it's the dialogue, really, that feels too

modern for me. And there's a bit more slapstick humor than I expected, especially in how

Chester Arthur is portrayed. And it's taken me out of the moment, I have to say, more than once. But,

but hey, I don't want to rain on anyone's parade. I will barrel through and finish it because

I want to support this kind of historical storytelling, even if it's flawed, which I believe

this is. It's such an important and fascinating story, and it deserves to be told. And the best part

is that Death by Lightning is bringing this chapter of American history to a whole new audience.

And hopefully it inspires some folks to pick up Candace Mullard's Destiny of the Republic, and they can experience
