Summary
Many cryptocurrencies are centralized, and some disregard blockchain privacy entirely, in order to attract users. Monero aims to be completely decentralized and open-source, and yet still places a high priority on privacy. They accomplish this by focusing on four different aspects of transaction privacy: obscuring where the transaction is going to through stealth addresses; obscuring where the transaction is coming from through ring signatures; encrypting the amounts of the transactions; and obscuring the IP address that the transaction is coming from through an I2P protocol.
