At number one, the Writers Guild of America and Hollywood Studios reached a tentative deal. The three-year contract still has to be approved by the Union's

membership, but the agreement would end the writer strike, which has stopped most TV and film

scriptwriting since May. The WGA didn't share terms of the agreement, but they did say it was

exceptional. It came after five straight days of negotiations between the studios and the guild.

But your favorite shows may not be able to resume production just yet.

Studios still need to restart talks with the TV and Film Actors Union.

That strike has been going on since July, and it could take weeks or even months to reach an agreement.

At number two, time is running out for lawmakers to avert a government shutdown.

The deadline to reach a deal to continue funding the government is this Saturday at midnight and

House Republicans are still far far away from an agreement. Far right members of the

party have been demanding long-term spending bills rather than a short-term stopgap measure.
