Chinese President Xi Jinping plans to stick around.

Yesterday, China's ruling Communist Party's National Congress kicked off its Quin Queniel

once every five years, meeting.

They reappointed Xi to lead the party as General Secretary for five more years, a norm-breaking

third term with no end in sight.

It further cements his already substantial control of the country.

In 2018, the legislature removed the two-term presidential limit, paving the way for the 69-year-old

to rule for life.

In his National Congress speech, Xi referenced China's resolve for reunification with the

self-governed island of Taiwan, which Beijing considers part of its territory, and said

China reserves the option of, quote, taking all measures necessary.

It's a loaded statement in light of Russia's recent invasion of Ukraine.
