So glad that you joined us for another lesson, really, on getting more out of our Bible.

I'm sitting here in a hotel room, but I'm talking to you, and I'm glad that you have joined us for today.

I want to say at the beginning of

today's lesson that I probably should have put this one first. And I did mention a couple of

these points just in passing, but the more I thought about it, the more I thought, you know,

I need to backtrack and really

emphasize this foundationally if we're going to understand our Bible.

Too often we look at understanding the Bible as kind of a technique that we can use to

understand literature better.

And certainly the Bible is literature, and we need to know something about grammar.

We certainly need to know something about word definitions. It's wise for us to be able to know things like literary devices and genre, whether it's a narrative passage or a wisdom passage or an historical passage,

all of that's important in its place.

But understand this, God's word is not like any other book.

And because it's not like any other book, it can't be understood like any other book. And I'm not saying that it's a mystical thing,

but I am saying that there is an element to understanding that obviously has to do with our alignment with the Lord.

So I want to give you three prerequisites to understanding the Bible and thereby getting more from the Word of God.

I would say first of all, it is imperative that the reader of the Word of God be regenerated.
