Hey friends, welcome back to today's episode of Everyday Truth.

I'm a little bit dressed up today because it's Sunday afternoon and I'm preparing this

lesson for tomorrow morning, which is now today for those of you that are listening.

We're in Galatians 4 and wow, I can't believe we're

halfway through the book already, but we are in such an important section when it comes to

Paul's main argument. Now, obviously, we know it's the Holy Spirit of God that is the ultimate author of Scripture,

and the point of the lesson is, don't go backward. Don't go backward. There was a very important

purpose for the law that God gave to Moses. Now, remember what we learned. The law came after the promise he gave to Abraham,

what we call the Abrahamic covenant. And it was that Abrahamic covenant that promised that God would

bless the whole world through Abraham's seed, specifically through Messiah. And people are saved, people are brought to a right relationship with God,

received the gift righteousness offered through Christ by believing on Messiah, believing that

Jesus died, was buried, rose again. That's what all of the Old Testament sacrificial system typified and symbolized

was the fact that we need an innocent sacrifice because we cannot meet God's moral standard.

That's why the law was added. The law was added because people didn't see themselves as the sinners that they were. And the law was that necessary

mirror, that schoolmaster that taught them, that they needed discipline, that they needed

to be held to a standard, and that they couldn't ultimately do that. So the law was our schoolmaster,

our mirror. It was added, the Bible says, because of transgression, until the seed should come

to whom the promises made. So the law was always and only intended to be temporary.
