We're starting today's show with an update from Hawaii where wildfires devastated

West Maui last week. I'm Jeff Pierre and this is the seven from the

Washington Post. It's Monday August 14th. Let's get you caught up with

today's seven stories. Number one, the death toll from the Maui wildfires rose to 96 over the weekend.

It's now the deadliest US wildfire in over 100 years.

Searches are continuing and the final death toll may not be

known for some time. This weekend Hawaii Governor Josh Green described just how

quickly the fire spread. Fire traveled one mile every minute resulting in this tragedy. With those

kind of winds and a thousand degree temperatures, ultimately all the pictures

that you will see will be easy to understand because that level of

destruction in a fire hurricane something new to us in this age of global warming was the

ultimate reason that so many people perished. The cause of the fire is still not known, but

Hawaiian Electric is facing scrutiny for not cutting power in advance of high winds

to reduce the fire risk. Number two, a Georgia prosecutor will begin presenting her case against Donald Trump this week.
