A Democratic congressman says he's resigning following reports accusing him of sexual assault and harassment.

Swalwell had faced accusations of sexual assault and sexual misconduct, including from

former staffers of his. He says, quote, I am deeply sorry to my family, staff and constituents

for mistakes in judgment I have made in my past. I will fight. He goes on to say the serious

false allegations made against me. However, I must take responsibility and ownership for the

mistakes I did make. California Governor Gavin Newsom can call a special election to fill Swalwell's seat.

Newsom's office tells ABC News in a statement they are reviewing the matter and will make an official

announcement once the seat is formally vacant. In the aftermath, Texas Republican Congressman

Tony Gonzalez says he's retiring tomorrow,

amid threats to expel him over an affair with a staffer. Earlier this year, Gonzalez announced he would
