Therapeutic communication was one of the first things I learned in nursing school, and I feel

very fortunate that I went to a nursing program where we actively practiced and rehearsed therapeutic communication

techniques before we even stepped foot into the clinical setting.

We also had a journal about therapeutic communication each week when we went into the clinical

I'm going to list some of the effective communication techniques that are considered part of what

communication. These include active listening, sharing observations, sharing empathy, sharing hope,

and sharing humor. Other effective strategies include using touch such as shaking someone's
