In this video, we're going to talk about some potential solutions to the problems about birth plans

that we brought up in the last video. And by the end of this video, you'll be able to talk about

some of the tickets out for parents out of the system. And one is to find the true value of birth

plans. Two is to have a supportive empowered partner. Three is to use love or to humanize the room.

And four is respectful communication.

So we're going to talk about each one of these tickets out of the less than ideal system.

So with regard to the true value of birth plans, I think it's important to talk with parents

about how the true purpose of birth plan and the value in them is

primarily to help you find the right birth setting and provider and make sure that your

wishes and preferences are a good match for whoever you've chosen to surround you at

your birth. Also to use it as a preparation and educational tool to figure out what you still need to educate

yourself more about and to create backup plans for when your primary plans aren't able to

be fulfilled.

Also, sometimes parents have to switch providers and or birth settings if necessary in order

to get benefit from their birth plan, especially if there are certain things

that are quote required or not allowed at their chosen birth setting.

We'll talk more, we talk more about this in the module all about knowing your rights, but in

some cases the easiest way to get what you want on your birth plan is to pick a

birth provider in setting that supports what you want wholeheartedly.

Practically birth plans are also very useful as a communication tool before labor both with

the partner, the doula, and the provider. And I usually recommend that my clients who take
