Minnesota Governor Tim Walls has authorized the state's National Guard to help support local law enforcement,

and the lieutenant governor says they're on standby now.

That says protests erupted after an ice agent shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis Wednesday.

CNN's Laura Coates was on the scene outside of Minneapolis federal building, where federal agents and

protesters clashed. About 40 years old ice agents that are out here in the area. There is something that

is in the hair, causing to the closet. They are retreating right now as the crowd is coming closer and closer.

They are retreat.

The White House says it's standing behind the ICE officer in yesterday's shooting.

You have a woman who aimed her car at a law enforcement officer and pressed on the accelerator.

Nobody debates that.

I can believe that her death is a tragedy while also recognizing that it's a tragedy

of her own making and a tragedy of the far left who has marshaled an entire movement,

a lunatic fringe against our law enforcement officers.

And exactly what took place before the shooting remains unclear.

State and local officials have disputed claims that yesterday's shooting was in self-defense.

And today, state officials say the feds have blocked them from investigating the shooting.

A senior official at the Department of Homeland Security tells CNN that the officer has

10 years of experience with the agency, and that last summer, a driver dragged that officer

more than 50 yards during an arrest.
