Hey there from CNN. I'm David Rind with The Five Things You Need to Know for Thursday, January 8th.

Let's start in Minneapolis, where yesterday's shooting of a woman by an ICE agent has only deep intentions over the immigration crackdown in the city.

The woman killed has been identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, mother of three, who had recently moved to Minnesota.

This morning protesters clashed with law enforcement outside a federal building.

Agents fired pepper balls and deployed a gas-like substance.

Meanwhile, near the intersection where the shooting took place, people created makeshift barricades using wooden pallets,

tires, traffic cones, and garbage cans. CNN's Brian Abel is there. Some of the people that I talk to

told me that it's to protect themselves from vehicles coming in and ramming protesters like we

have seen in some other demonstrations, other places in the world and here in the U.S.

So they weren't waiting for law enforcement to protect them.

They took it upon themselves. We're also getting an idea and a sense of who these individuals are.

They are people here in the community.

There are also members of the immigrant community that say that they felt compelled

to come here in the wake of this shooting of René Good.
