Summary

In February 2019, Mallory Beach was killed in Beaufort County, South Carolina as a result of a horrific boat crash on Archers Creek near Parris Island. Paul Murdaugh was indicted for Boating Under The Influence Resulting In Death among other charges and awaiting trial.Investigative journalist Mandy Matney guides you through details of events leading up to the crash, including Paul Murdaugh's intoxication and erratic behavior. The investigation was chaotic, with delays and alleged confusion over who was driving the boat. 0:13.0	When I first found out that Maggie and Paul were murdered in June of 2021, I knew that it had to be related to the boat crash somehow.
0:21.6	I had reported on the boat crash for more than two years at that point, and I knew from
0:26.1	sources close to the Murdox that the crash served as a seismic event in the family, perhaps
0:32.0	the first mess that they could not contain.
0:35.4	While I believed the two events were related somehow, I never
0:39.4	believed that any of the kids involved in the crash had anything to do with the murders.
0:44.9	I knew how terrified those kids were of the Murdoch family, and there was no world where
0:50.5	any of them could ever have been involved. But mainstream media, who hopped on this story after the murders and found out about the crash through a Google search,
0:59.0	recklessly started connecting all of the wrong dots in this story and started insinuating that the murders might be a revenge killing for what happened to Mallory Beach.
1:10.0	This blamed the boat crash kids, narrative floating around mainstream media at the time
1:15.3	ultimately inspired me to create this podcast and lay out all of the facts on a big platform
1:21.7	in a way that people could understand and stop blaming people who did not deserve it.
1:27.2	Turns out I was right.
1:28.3	The murders were in fact connected to the boat crash and all the time that I spent pulling on strings in the boat crash case.
