Summary

Belgian man Theo Hayez was living his dream and traveling around Australia in 2019. He had seen amazing sites like the Great Barrier Reef and Australian outback.

In May 2019, Theo ended up in Australia’s famous beachside town Byron Bay. He made some friends at the hostel where he was staying and they visited the notorious Cheeky Monkey’s bar for a night out.

Theo was having fun dancing and socializing, but a security guard thought he was bordering on intoxication. He was asked to leave the bar, which he did quickly and quietly. Theo has never been seen again.

The investigation into Theo’s disappearance is one of the largest ever conducted in Australia. A $500,000 reward exists for information in his case.

Was Theo a victim of misadventure? Or did he come across the wrong person that night? There are some gaps in the timeline of his disappearance and his family believe someone in Byron Bay may hold the answer as to what happened to Theo.

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the disappearance of Theo Hayez.

0:41.2

into it for a way longer than we originally planned. So I feel like a little deranged in loopy right

0:47.6

now. Yeah, a little stir crazy. I mean like a silly goofy mood. And as a reminder with this episode

0:57.1

in any episode, there is a timestamp if you don't want to hear us chat for 10 minutes at the start

1:04.4

or if we're talking about like a little case update or something you don't care about. There's

1:19.5

1:25.8

So yeah, we won't we don't have too much to talk about since we just did that big episode. How

1:31.3

1:37.0

There was ice on my windscreen today. I feel like it's been extra extra cold. Not doesn't usually get

1:41.6

this cold but anyway, this heaps of sickness going around at my kids school. I think they sent

1:45.6

out a note that there's RSV, COVID influenza A and influenza B. So I'm just waiting for it to

1:52.0

hit us but we're all good for now. Yeah, things are pretty good, pretty standard. One thing that we

1:58.6

are dealing with which is a little bit getting tricky is our old dog Ralph, he's 14 and I am certain

2:05.1

he's got dog dementia. Like he just barks at nothing even like and like I know I've googled it and

2:11.2

I read that it's because they're kind of confused which I get. But even today like he was inside

2:16.1

right next to my bed and he's just looking at me and barking. I'm like, what do I do? What do I do?
