Smith seemingly vanished. Her husband, Russell Smith, claimed she left voluntarily, but the story he told

authorities never quite added up. As investigators delve deeper, inconsistencies in his version of

events and mounting circumstantial evidence pointed toward foul play. Neighbors whispered about his odd behavior in the

days following Christine's disappearance, and police struggled to piece together what happened.

and a well-executed bluff forced Russell Smith to confess. Despite his admission, Christine's remains

Christine Renee Smith was born December 17, 1966.

She went by the nickname Chris, and she was described by a neighbor as a wonderful mother

who was very involved in her daughter's life.

At the time of her disappearance, she worked at kindergarten in Portage, Michigan.
