14-year-old Andrew Gosden was a model student.

He was exceptionally bright and selected to participate in the government's young, gifted, and talented

program, which aimed to enhance the development of the top 5% of students in the UK.

Andrew attended Macaulay Catholic High School in Canley,

four miles from his family home on Littlemore Lane in Bulley, Doncaster.

He had won awards in national and European maths competitions,

and his former teacher Martin Taylor had no doubt that Andrew would secure

first-class honours in maths at Oxford or Cambridge if that was what he wanted to do.

Martin said, he's quite a shy lad, but he has a fantastic smile and I've never seen him down or sullen.

Andrew is deep and mature beyond his years. He's quite self-contained and happy in his own company, but he's not a loner.

He always had a little posse of friends with him.

Andrew lived with his father Kevin, his mother, Glenys, and his 16-year-old sister, Charlotte.
