This is a BONUS episode of the podcast and let me tell you... If you’ve been putting off upgrading your subscription, NOW is the time to do it because our Renew & Restore Lenten sessions have been FANTASTIC. Last night we connected with Gary Jansen, author of The Healing Power of Praying the Rosary.

This is a little preview of our conversation, but to hear the whole thing, upgrade here: https://daniellebean.substack.com/subscribe

e had a powerful conversation about discovering how this ancient prayer can become a practical tool for peace when life gets chaotic.

Some Things We Cover:

* How the Rosary works as spiritual (and physical!) medicine

* Mary's straightforward role in bringing us to Jesus

* Concrete ways to pray when your mind won't stop racing

* How breathing exercises can be part of prayer

* What the “Jesus Prayer” is and how to practice it

We also took on viewers’ questions about prayer struggles and spiritual roadblocks.

Next week, we’ll talk with author Colleen Reiss Vermeulen about overcoming FOMO in prayer, and we would love for you to join us live. Learn more here: https://daniellebean.substack.com/p/finding-peace-in-prayer-let-go-of

because I know for sure I've, you know, prayed the rosary before and I get to the end of a mystery

0:04.4

and I'm like, what was I even thinking about? Like, I don't even know, probably planning an email I needed to write or something, you know? So like,

0:13.3

what do you suggest for people who might find themselves with that kind of flitting brain syndrome?

0:19.5

Yeah. So I think it happens to everybody. I think it's very,

0:22.9

very common. And it's one of the reasons why it's nice to incorporate the breath.

0:27.0

Because if you can all like come back to the prayer and the breath, right? So you get distracted

0:31.3

and it's like, oh, let me come back. And then you're breathing in and you're breathing out.

0:35.9

And, you know, and there is another way where you can, you know, you're meditating on the mystery.

0:40.8

So you can use Ignatian spirituality or that kind of like principle of putting yourself in the scene, using your imagination, say, okay, so I'm at the foot of the cross of Mary.

0:49.7

What am I?

0:50.9

So you can do that as well, just kind of like, where am I? Okay, I'm at the,

0:55.0

you know, let's say we're at the nativity and you're contemplating that. You could just come back

1:01.5

to an image and sometimes just coming back to an image and catching yourself. You know,

1:05.8

it's going to happen. And I think that's the thing is, is the more that you do it, the less

1:10.8

you're going to get distracted.

1:12.7

But in the beginning, your mind's going to wander all over the place, which is same thing in meditation, which is why we always kind of teach people to come back to the breath.

1:20.8

And one of the other things, too, just kind of going back to the last, like question we were talking about, another thing that's great is to pray right before you go to

1:27.8

sleep. So either keep rosary beads in your bed, right, or use your fingers, and then, you know, pray,

1:35.9

you know, and you can use your fingers to count. It's a great way to go to sleep.

1:40.2

Yeah. If you fall asleep while praying, beautiful, because then you're going, you basically

1:44.3

fall in asleep in the arms of Mary and Jesus, and it's bad. Yeah.
