Dr. Dawn Mussallem was clinically dead for four minutes. Her heart stopped beating in a room full of other doctors.
The fact that she came back to life is a miracle. It was the second time she defied the odds to live. Earlier in life she beat Stage 4 terminal cancer.
Does she have super DNA that helped her survive?
No. Her superpower is one that every other human has the potential to possess: a positive outlook on life. That outlook would enable her to become the first person in history to complete a marathon on the first anniversary of receiving a heart transplant.
Dr. Mussallem joins βThe Weight Loss Championβ Chuck Carroll to share her incredible story of cheating death and surviving against all odds.
This episode was recorded on location in Rochester, Minn., at the Lifestyle Medicine Pathway to Health and Happiness Symposium presented by the Lotus Health Foundation and Rochester Clinic.

1:10.0 | presence was holding me. |
1:21.0 | It was so beautiful to be able to describe and I was more awake in this moment of what they clinically defined as death than most people probably experience in a lifetime. |
1:24.3 | And it was as if my non-beating heart |
1:27.4 | had this direct connection to this very hopeful soul. |
1:30.6 | It's so hard to describe, but the one thing I would say is I was in no hurry to leave that place. |
