Summary

From playing piano and cooking to decorating and more, we reflect on how we are minor experts. Plus the minor expertise we might like to develop one day and the minor expertise we have no interest in acquiring.

In Obsessions, Erica loves the book she's reading and Kelsey loves her morning smoothie. In Neighborhood News, a backyard was momentarily aflame alarmingly close to Kelsey's house.

We'll be reading The Giver of Stars for our summer book club. The episode will air on July 29 so grab a copy and join us!

next door neighbors and good friends who love a good chat and a good laugh. We're inviting

you to come on in, have a drink, and stay a while. Hey friend. Hey friend. Today we're talking about

0:18.2

being minor experts. But first, we want to remind everyone that for our summer book club, we'll be discussing the novel, The Giver of Stars, by Jojo Moy's, on July 29th. So grab a copy of the book, or listen to the audio, which we will highly recommend and join us. And now on to today's topic, which is being minor experts. Having minor

expertise is a concept that I heard about on the happier podcast with Gretchen Rubin,

0:44.6

and I was immediately fascinated by this whole concept. So essentially it's the idea of being

really into something, but not feeling the pressure to be an expert. I love it because I think we all

0:55.8

have minor expertise in things, but we might not think of it that way. In doing so, could reveal

1:01.1

what brings us happiness and what we should do more of. But considering it a minor expertise

1:06.3

also takes the pressure off from feeling like an interest has to be a side hustle or become a main focus.

1:11.8

I love this idea so much and I thought immediately of your husband. Did you? Oh my gosh.

1:16.8

He is a great. Although I mean he is he puts pressure on to be like a legit expert. But he doesn't

1:21.7

necessarily think it should be like. Right. His career. Right. Yes. Exactly. Over the past like I, I guess five-ish years, he's gotten, and he just goes deep into

sewing and now currently woodworking and violin.

1:33.9

Yeah.

1:34.3

And I mean, he just like goes all in.

1:36.3

Yeah.

1:36.7

Like he is like the prime example of this.

1:39.3

Like just doing the thing that brings you joy for no other reason.

1:42.5

Exactly.

1:43.0

It brings you joy.

1:43.7

Exactly.
