Don't just say this is about thoughts and prayers right now. These kids were literally praying.

Two children were killed in a shooting at a Catholic school mass in Minnesota. That's where we're

starting the seven from the Washington Post. I'm Hannah Jewell. It's Thursday, August 28th. Let's get

you caught up with today's seven stories. Yesterday morning, a shooter

opened fire at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. An 8-year-old and a 10-year-old were

fatally shot. 17 other people were wounded, including 14 students. They are all expected to survive.

You just heard Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey at the top of the show. He spoke at an emotional

news conference following the attack.

It was the first week of school. They were in a church. These are kids that should be learning with their friends.

They should be playing on the playground. They should be able to go to school or church in peace

without the fear or risk of violence and their parents should have the same kind of

assurance.

Ten-year-old Weston Halzney was in the church when the shooting happened.

He spoke to Twin Cities' NBC affiliate, Care 11.

The first one, I was like, what is that?

I thought it was just something.

Then when I heard it again, I just ran under the pew.

And then I covered my head. My friend Victor, like, saved me, though, because he laid on top of me.

But he got hit.

The attacker was identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities said Westman had timed rambling videos to be posted

to YouTube to coincide with the attack. One video showed messages written on gun magazines. They included
