When we met Lionel Krab expert Anne Bevern in Portsmouth, she pointed out all sorts of places connected

with Crab, the Saliport Hotel, the pub where he observed the Soviet ships, the docks and the harbour front.

But she said there's one place we really ought to check out, a secret base that's not

accessible by car or by foot, because there's a ton of security surrounding it.

It's called Fort Moncton just beyond Portsmouth Harbour and it's an old military fort that dates from Tudor times.

But Fort Monckton is much more than an old fort.

According to Ambevan, it's a top-secret intelligence base. Anne tells us we can get a good view of Fort Monckton from the sea,

so my producer Sarah and I are taking a boat trip there

there on a wind-swept bit of coast is Fort Monckton, that secret base, and we're going to get as close as we can.
