When you're sharing your problems with others (and vice versa), is it in hopes of finding a solution, or just venting and spreading anxiety in an unproductive way? The correlation between reality and anxiety is tenuous. So be aware that some people do it unknowingly, while others exploit our anxiety for power, attention, or money. Like a virus, anxiety is spread more easily than ever in the age of social media. How often do you find yourself falling prey to it and passing it along to others -- it happens to all of us if we're not careful. Interrupt the pattern by realizing that someone who's trying to make you anxious is doing so by navigating unwritten rules within your relationship that you've already accepted. 0:15.5	Even when we were kids I used to go to his house all the time and years later I finally figured

0:21.3	His parents and siblings always shared their stresses with the whole family in this really

0:27.9	Instead of allowing one another to vent or help one another problem solve it was mostly
0:32.0	just one person passing their anxiety and stress to other people in the family.

0:39.5	Mostly his family found it somehow relieving when other people around them shared their
0:43.7	anxiety and stress with them.
0:45.8	So it became some sort of unwritten rule that they'd put up with this crap from one

0:50.4	Now the problem with throwing gasoline on the fire of anxiety and other people is that
0:54.7	they'll end up doing the same to us and it's not healthy for them or for us.
0:59.2	Today with the internet and social media it's easier than ever for the anxiety virus
1:03.6	to travel from one person to the next.
1:06.2	People do it when they want power, when they want attention and especially when they want
