So I saw over the weekend that Paul Kelly's How to Make Gravy, which is a really underrated Christmas song.

It's a very different kind of Christmas song.

And because obviously the protagonist, Joe, he's in prison.

And Paul Kelly, I remember listening to an interview where he was talking about when he wrote the song,

how he was trying to find an original way to write a Christmas song, because

they're all roughly about the same thing. He wanted someone who was writing the song, and they

couldn't make it home for Christmas. And he was thinking, is he stranded? Then he saw there

quite a few songs about stranded, not going to make it back for Christmas. He thought, wait, no, he's in, he's in prison. He writes this letter home on 21st of December, and in the letter he's saying, and it's a beautiful

song, but he's got this recipe for how to make his gravy because he won't be coming home for

Christmas. It's actually a song that actually, I just realized it's got no chorus in it. And I guess because

it was set in a prison, Paul Kelly wouldn't have thought this had become a big Christmas bang of an anthem about a guy in prison.

So he didn't actually put a chorus in, I'm guessing.
