Welcome to the Man Talk Show. I'm Connor Beaton and today we are going to talk about change.

0:07.1

Now, I just want to pose a question to you to start this off.

0:11.3

What if no matter what you did, you couldn't change?

0:16.3

What if you simply are the way you are and there's nothing at all that you can do about that?

0:26.5

Now, this is some people's perspective. Some people have the perspective that there's nothing

0:30.9

that they can do and that they are helpless. They're helpless to their circumstances.

0:35.4

They're helpless to their environment. They're helpless to everything around them. Everything around them is encrouching in on their

0:40.4

own freedom and ability to act. So what if you are the way that you are and there's nothing

0:46.7

you can do about it? Then what do you do? Well, the first logical conclusion that we must come to

1:13.2

is to cause suffering. So if you are the way that you are and you believe that that's how you are

1:18.6

and there's nothing that you can do about it, then the only thing that you know is wrong in that

1:23.7

scenario to do is to complain about how you are because there's nothing you can do about it.

1:31.3

So taking this perspective allows us to remove complaining from our own sense of trying to fix

1:40.0

ourselves. But if we come back to the question, what if you are the way that you are,

1:44.1

there's nothing you can do about it, what is there left for us to do? Well, we can't complain

1:49.5

because that only serves to suffer. We must then be left with a form of acceptance. And in that

1:56.6

accepting, it creates a space for us to start to allow in the truths that are actually existing

2:04.9

in our lives. We can start to acknowledge the resistance that we have in our complaints.
