Summary

In Mini Episode 42, Brittany Block (@brbreads) and I talk about the logistics of reading abroad, bleak books, and books that help you learn something.

This post contains affiliate links, through which I make a small commission when you make a purchase (at no cost to you!).

Highlights

  • How Brittany gets access to books while living abroad (including her library access, e-book access, and what she does in German bookstores).
  • How Brittany’s reading taste has evolved (and the vast difference between her favorite book of 2009 and her favorite book of 2019).
  • We lament the overuse of The Girl on the Train comparisons and discuss another egregious comparison not involving The Girl on the Train.

About Brittany

Instagram

Brittany taught Language Arts and Math (Special Education Inclusion Teacher) for 2 years before enlisting in the Air Force. Brittany has always been an avid reader but her reading has changed since she started teaching and trying to find books that would make the kids I taught excited about reading and not dread it like they had their entire lives (especially those with reading disabilities).

Hey everyone, welcome to the first mini episode of 2020 for Sarah's Bookshelves Live.

Many episodes feature book bloggers, Instagrammers, and regular readers

that apply to be on the show and focus solely on book recommendations. And did y'all catch that I did

1:01.9

not say in 20 minutes or less? That was intentional because after the extra long mini episode

1:08.1

with Elizabeth Chapman, which aired in November, and that was episode

1:12.8

37, if you're interested. I heard from a number of you that you liked that I did not stick

1:18.6

strictly to the 20 minute time limit. So I decided to just scrap that time limit. These many

1:24.3

episodes will still be much shorter than the full-length versions, and they will just

1:29.0

feature the book recommendation portion of the show like they always have, but I'm not going to

1:33.5

hold myself strictly to 20 minutes or less moving forward. So thank you so much for your feedback,

1:38.9

and I hope you enjoy the possibly sometimes slightly longer mini episodes. Today's guest is Brittany Block,

reveal much about her current job,
