Today's mini edit is about how to handle homework.

Ah, homework.

It's a topic that many parents and caregivers dread, but that is inevitable for most.

If your kid is in a traditional school setting, homework is a reality, and learning how to manage it,

how to manage time, plan ahead, work through frustration, it's all super important, and also

resilience building, perhaps for everyone. It's also worth noting that learning how to handle

homework is a skill that builds over time.

So if you are in a hard season with it, remember that it is a long game.

I know that's hard to hear sometimes, but it is a reality.

Let's jump right into the recommendations.

The first one is really simple, and it is to not do your kids' homework. Don't correct it. Don't

perfect it. Don't touch it. If they're asking for help to try to understand something that's obviously

a completely different situation, but don't do the assignment for them. Second, I think it's

really important to talk about the importance of mistakes mistakes because the reality is kids need to know that making mistakes is part of the learning process.

And yet, in school, mistakes often have consequences.

I think one of the best curriculum nights I ever went to was when one of Violet's teachers, I think it was math, perhaps, said, listen, I look at mistakes as information.

It tells me what needs to be learned, what I can be reinforcing, how to support the kids better.
