You might have seen this meme that's out there an occasionally funny one that is

unfortunately increasingly politically partisan but is based around the idea of

NPCs, non-playable characters. In other words it's predicated off the notion that certain humans are mindless, idiotic sheep, if not actual automatons. And it's easy to think that way. I mean, you hear people say things

that are mind-bogglingly contrived as if they're novel, you drive behind a lady in a

Ford Taurus with a bumper sticker that says, not all who wander are lost, which I just did, or God forbid you are

reluctantly slogging your way through the ocean of abusive overhead lighting and

unrelenting beigeness that is a grocery store and you seem to be the only one

that notices the only one walking with any kind of purpose,

as if everyone else in the place is on some infinite, predetermined behavior loop.

I felt that way.

I feel that way all the time, actually.

But we're not surrounded by Simulacra.

compliance conditioning too much comfort, complacent meat suits sated by First World cushions, I would say. It's like diaterally derived apathy. Like it's hard to be figuratively hungry

for progress and self-improvement when you are so literally bursting with calories.

But that doesn't mean people suffering from any of the above are NPCs.
