Summary

This week, Tommy is joined by actor Milo Ventimiglia, whose career has spanned beloved television roles, heartfelt dramas, and unforgettable characters that continue to resonate with audiences. From being stopped on the street for Jack Pearson to reflecting on the lasting cultural impact of Gilmore Girls and its sharp, enduring writing, Milo looks back on the characters that shaped his career and the complicated legacy of playing a “toxic” love interest. He shares what he really thinks about Jess today, the advice he would give his younger self, and why he has never been afraid of rejection. This conversation also explores maintaining boundaries between work and home life and why separating emotion from career has been key to longevity.

Milo also opens up about stepping into I Can Only Imagine 2, taking vocal lessons and guitar training for the role, and how personal loss, including losing his home in the fires just before welcoming his first child, deepened his connection to the story’s themes of faith, resilience, and gratitude. He reflects on what having faith means to him, why relying solely on work for happiness can be dangerous, and what his relationship is like with fear. Milo also speaks candidly about letting life experiences shape creativity rather than the other way around.

We have so much to celebrate. What a time for you right now. I mean, what a time. Thanks, man. Yeah, it's been a bit of a different year than last year.

Okay.

1:14.6

Because. We have a lot of other stuff to cover until we get there. And one of the things that I want to start with this conversation with today is I have to thank you.

1:13.9

Okay.

1:14.5

Because you pop up on my social feeds every once in a while with a headline that you allow men to wear short shorts at the gym.

1:24.9

And as a fellow gym enthusiast who loves a good thigh short that rocks it Prowley and that my brothers have been like, ah, you got to wear past the knee. I'm like, no, no. Pass to knee. Who does that? Are we in the surf line or something trying to keep our thighs from getting burned? I mean, who wants that, right? Like all that fabric. I mean, you're normalizing shorter shorts for men and I appreciate that.

1:44.7

You could probably attest to this is it's easier to work in when you don't have as much fabric kind of there.

1:49.7

So the short shorts, I'll take it back a little bit.

1:52.9

You know, depending on what role I'm playing, like I'm training a bit, training a lot or picking up your guitar, doing whatever.

1:59.0

I think in the moment I was doing a lot of training

for to play Army Special Forces. And my trainer, Jason Walsh, we were working and we were just working

and like for me to like, you know, just hike my shorts up to get them out of the way so I can get

to whatever lift, deadlift, squat, whatever I was doing just happened. So I think the shorts in question were a normal length short, kind of like mid-thigh, maybe like closer to the knee, but not too far, like not too long. Yeah. But then I just yanked them up. And it was hot that day in L.A. And I walked out of the gym and everything just pulled up and walked out of my eyes. I just got to get and then boom gq esquire all those people like short shorts are back yeah trend setter man had no
