We have a very full punchable news a.m. We are leading this morning's newsletter with a look at how the House is set to vote on a short-term funding bill that will not pass, leaving GOP members grumbling about their

own leadership and the Congress closer and closer to, one, the government funding deadline, and two, having to find a way forward with a short-term funding bill.

Yeah, I mean, listen, this is not very, it's pretty anti-climatic.

They're going to vote on this bill today. We scoop this yesterday morning right before Johnson announced it. And to be honest with you, the idea is it shows this thing can't pass and then they move on to something else. If that's the idea, Johnson's not saying that at this point. He says he's eternally hopeful or something like that.

He said he's an optimist when I talked to him yesterday.

No one else in his leadership is.
