Summary

Ironman Wisconsin is a great environment and the Friday before the race Mike went to the water, drove the bike course, and ran the run course. He's done Ironman Wisconsin twice and puts together a few thoughts from today and combines them with his race experiences. Casual, late-night, hotel conversation.

Hey, what's going on? This is Mike. I am in Madison, Wisconsin, and I'm watching several C-26 athletes take the course on Sunday.

0:13.0

It is now Friday night, and I thought I would give a kind of a last-minute talk about what I think and what I see and what I saw today about the

0:25.8

course and what's going on around here. First of all, Madison is just, I don't know,

0:31.6

it's just one of my favorite places in the world. It has a lot to do probably with the fact that

0:35.7

I love the Badgers and whatever, but it's just a

0:38.7

beautiful campus and a great environment for this kind of thing. It's a bustling environment and they

0:44.9

throw Iron Man right in the middle of it. The State Street area downtown, Iron Man is right downtown,

0:51.9

and there's just so many cool things going on around the sport.

0:59.5

And from what I see, the city and everyone I talk to just embraces it and they're not, they

1:06.6

think it's cool. You know, I don't think they think it's super cool necessarily, but I think they think it's cool and they are,

1:13.6

by and large,

1:15.0

very nice to everyone about the Iron Man stuff.

1:19.6

So that's a cool thing.

1:21.5

So first thing is I went down to the water today,

1:24.7

and I really love that lake. It's beautiful. It was 60s, mid 60s or upper 60s today. It felt a little cold and the cloud cover makes with the wind made that lake look a little daunting today. I can be honest, I was thinking about it. I mean, I'm standing up

1:44.7

there watching people swim and it was really pretty choppy, you know, for a lake, I guess.

1:52.0

So I'm hoping the sun comes out because I've been thinking about this swim and really how to handle

1:58.8

this swim and what, you know, based on a couple of times i've done it

2:02.1

first of all i think i've started in the wrong place i've started by the ski ramp and you kind of have to

2:07.4

sort of slide your way into the mix from the outside and then by the time you get to the buoy who knows

2:14.0

how much further you've swam technically it's supposed to be about 30 more yards or something, but I don't know.

2:20.7

Especially with the wave starts now, I think that the answer is to start on the inside
