guest is Mike Campbell. I'm going to tell you who he is, but I want you to know

first that when I first started this podcast 2013 and I made my

initial list to 20 people that I wanted on this show, Mike Campbell was on that list.

And because Mike, you're the, you are the perfect person for what this show is about.

The choices you made in your life, the band you were a part of, your role in that band.

And for those of you who don't know Mike was Tom Petty's

creative partner for Tom's entire career and Mike's career until Tom's untimely

passing and when I say creative partner,

he wasn't just the guitar player in the band

or the sort of de facto musical director.

Mike wrote some of your favorite and my favorite

Tom Petty songs with Tom.

He wrote, You Got Lucky and You Wreck Me and Stop Dragging My Heart Around for Stevian.

Refugee and Running Down a Dream.

And he also wrote two of my favorite songs that aren't Tom Petty's songs, Boys of Summer and Heart of the Matter,

and many more and has just, is just about to release an album that has also been a really long time in the making.

The Dirty Knobs, which is his band. And I want to talk to you, Mike, about that famous conversation you and Tom had about making a record like this a long time ago.

And when I heard the album, I understood it even more than when I read about it in Warren's great book.

So the album is amazing though.
