Hello, everybody. I'm John Fawson with this Great America Show Midday Update for Thursday, October 23rd.

Happy Thursday, folks. Essential workers are being left unpaid after Senate Democrats kill another bill.

That's right. The Democrats are at it again, blocking a Republican-led attempt to provide,

are you ready for this, folks, essential government workers with paychecks amid this ongoing

23-day Chuck Schumer government shutdown calling the bill overly selective and incomplete.

That bill proposed by Senators Ron Johnson and Todd Young of Indiana failed in a 54 to 45 vote

where 60 votes were needed to advance the bill over the threat of a filibuster. Only three Democrats,

John Federman of Pennsylvania,

Raphael Warnock, and John Osoff of Georgia voted with the Republicans. Now, it's worth

noting Raphael Warnock, John Osaf, are up for re-election in the Georgia Senate where they may not

hold their seats, so I guess they're trying to play it safe.

Now, in addition to compensating federal employees and military personnel during the current

shutdown, the bill would also extend relief to future instances where funding bills

aren't in effect.

Get this, folks.

Essential federal employees have been asked to continue working since the

government entered shutdown on October 1st after lawmakers failed to pass their spending legislation

to begin the 2026 fiscal year. Republicans have advanced a short-term spending extension that would

open the government through November 21st. Democrats have repeatedly rejected that proposal,
