Donald Trump, the President of the United States, spurred a mob of domestic enemies of the Constitution to march down the Capitol and subvert American democracy.

I documented the crowd turned from protesters to rioters to insurrectionists.

Not only did President Trump refuse to tell the mob to leave the Capitol,

he placed no call to any element of the United States government to instruct that the

Capitol be defended.

I can just remember my breath catching in my throat because what I saw was just a war scene.

Tonight, I say this to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible.

There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain.

Good morning. It's Saturday, June 11th. I'm Michael Steele in for Ali Valshi.

And this morning we're bringing you a special hour on the first ever public hearing of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th attack.

We now know more than we ever have about how the attack was planned and carried out.

And House investigators made it very clear this week that they believe and intend to prove to the American people

that the attempt to overthrow our government originated with one man, our twice-impeached ex-president Donald J. Trump.

On this point, there is no room for debate.

Those who invaded our capital and battled law enforcement for hours were motivated by what

President Trump had told them, that the election was stolen, and that he was the rightful

president.

President Trump summoned the mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack.

The panel alleges the former president knew he lost the 2020 election, lied to supporters,

and then orchestrated an attempted coup in a desperate attempt to hold onto power.

To make this point crystal clear, the committee used testimony for some of the ex-president's

once closest allies, such as former Attorney General Bill Barr, and Trump's own daughter, Ivanka.
