Summary

A podcast about political cinema and our crumbling world. Hosted by Will Sloan and Luke Savage.

Between the collapse of the Soviet Union and the War on Terror, James Bond went on a mission to find... relevance. We watched GOLDENEYE (1995), the first end-of-history Bond film, to find how 007 fit into the New World Order. PLUS: reflections on the inauguration, Canada's wacky system of governance, and the passing of Larry King.

We didn't mention this on the last episode, but I would be remiss if I didn't pay tribute to one of the fallen heroes, one of our personal inspirations for the Michael and Us podcast, a role model for both Luke and I.

I mean he's probably fulfilled that function on

1:14.1

conservatively three or four movies we've watched for this podcast. I felt a little

1:19.2

sad that Larry King died I have to say I mean I'm I'm sentimental about any old guy who dies. I'm

1:24.8

sentimental about anyone who seems like the end of an era even if it's like you know

1:28.8

kind of a hack broadcaster you know softball interview guy.

1:33.0

But the other reason I feel a bit sad is because there was something I think genuinely authentic about him.

1:39.0

He truly was a bozo in suspenders, he also barely pretended to care about most of the

1:46.0

interviews he did he wasn't fake ingratiating the way that somebody like

1:49.8

Anderson Cooper is you know he famously did no research before any interview at all and the

interviews would would seem like that right this is this is why he's your role model for the
