The subject of my investigation is a story of a dad, his three small children, and a dangerous

hike up a steep trail that ended with criminal charges.

Here's the story.

On October 11th, Micah Smith loaded up his three young children ages two, four, and eight

and set off into the mountains above Big Cottonwood Canyon on what he called a hike.

As a brutal storm rolled in and the temperatures dropped, the trail turned unforgiving.

Smith did not check the weather and rescuers later said even trained professionals struggled to reach their location when found two

children were in critical condition one nearly lifeless prosecutors now called the hike a nightmare

and have arrested smith and charged him criminally for taking the children on this dangerous

adventure so one week before all this dangerous adventure.

So one week before all this happens, Micah Smith is pulled over by police.

He's driving his car, got no plates on the car, the tires are balled. There's something clearly off off he's pulled over on the side of the road and an officer who's got the body camera and of course it's rolling and recording has this really interesting conversation with mika smith again remember this is one week before he takes the kids up this insane

hike into this horrific weather so again let's take a look and I want you to pay
