David and Matt go through the biggest stories, from the run of Christopher Eubanks, some comments by Stefanos Tsitsipas that got everyone checking the ATP rulebook, and the Indian Summer of Sorana Cirstea's career, while Catherine sends voice notes about her impressions from on site in Miami. David also covers the news that Wimbledon has lifted its ban on Russian and Belarusian players for the 2023 Championships.

Hello, folks. David here. We have a new tennis podcast for you, but it does not include

0:06.5

coverage of the news that has just broken moments ago of Wimbledon and the British grass

0:13.5

court tournaments in the UK, permitting Russian and Belarusian players to compete in their

0:18.8

events in 2023, unlike last year. As is so often the case, we recorded the show and then

0:25.6

this news dropped. So we haven't been able to include it, but I did want to put a covering

0:30.6

note on this show to say that we will come back to that news in the next show following

0:35.6

the Miami tournament, but I wanted to give you what we understand at the moment ahead

in the United Kingdom and around the world, it is our responsibility to play our part

0:55.7

in the widespread efforts of government industry, sporting and creative institutions to limit

1:00.6

Russia's global influence through the strongest possible means, this in response to the invasion

1:07.2

of Ukraine. Wimbledon went on to say at that time that in the circumstances of such unjustified

1:12.8

and unprecedented military aggression, it would be unacceptable for the Russian regime to

1:18.0

derive any benefits from the involvement of Russian or Belarusian players with the championships.

1:23.8

It is therefore our intention with deep regret to decline entries from Russian and Belarusian

1:29.2

players to the championships in 2022. That is of course what ended up happening at the time in

1:35.2

here at the chairman of the Olingland Club said that given the high profile environment of the

1:39.2

championships, the importance of not allowing sports to be used to promote the Russian regime

1:44.4

and our broader concerns for public and player, including family safety, we do not believe

1:49.3

it is viable to proceed on any other basis at the championships. If circumstances change

1:55.2

materially between now and June, he said back in April of 2022, we will consider and respond
