Both of your new novels incorporate myth and magic and casses, and we're going to come to that in a little bit.

But first, let's hear a bit more about the history that each of you are illuminating.

Miyakuta's Woman of the Ashes tells the story of 15-year-old Imani,

torn between the colonial Portuguese sergeant she translates for
