Clayton had just finished his first marathon on Sunday, and he was ecstatic.

He was 45, and had thought he would never be able to do a marathon, but he had done it, and he was so proud. He was on a cloud. Everything had gone according to plan. He came in just under five hours, which was his goal. And he felt good, too. It's no wonder he was on top of the world. On Wednesday, he called me.

I can still remember exactly the chair I was sitting down when we had this conversation.

Coach, I feel really good, he said. No pain anywhere. Is it okay if I go out and go for a run?

I said, you don't need to be running this week,

but if you take it very easy and only do a couple of miles, maybe three, but only do a walk, run,

and stop immediately if you feel any discomfort, then I guess it's okay.
