In December 1989, Ivana Trump was enjoying a Christmas holiday with her family in Aspen, Colorado.

Ivana and her husband, who she referred to as the Donald,

had spent the previous decade building an empire

and trying to climb their way to the top of New York's most elite and refined social circles.

But the life they built together began to unravel

when a pretty young blonde woman approached Ivana outside Bonnie's restaurant,

midway up Aspen Mountain. In front of several onlookers, the younger woman said to Ivana,

I'm Marla and I'm in love with your husband. Are you? Without missing a beat, Ivana answered,

Get lost. Then Mrs. Trump, a former competitive skier,

reportedly skied off down the hill. The dramatic scene marked the beginning of a divorce that made

front-page news for the next two years, with splashy headlines calling it the billion-dollar blow-up.

But the Trumps weren't the only couple caught up in relationship scandals.
