Used to be that the term luxury didn't jump to mind for shoppers

considering environmentally friendly hybrids and all-electric cars. No more. Mercedes up the

competition in the luxury all-electric vehicle market last week. Directly challenging Tesla's

Model X, the German automaker introduced the EQC, a posh, sporty SUV that Mercedes

says will have up to a 280-mile range when fully charged. The top speed of Mercedes sleek

SUV will be about 112 miles per hour. In one analyst's opinion, not quite enough for car lovers

to truly enjoy Germany's

no speed limit Autobahn. And it comes up short against some other Model X features, too. For instance,

it takes the EQC five seconds to go from zero to 60 compared to the Model X's three. But still,

the introduction made a huge splash and not just for the EQC itself.
