I'm Jolenta Greenberg, a comedian and culture critic, and I will be serving as your reality TV dramaturg.

Reminder, a dramaturg is just a researcher that gives background information on theatrical productions and helps put dramatic pieces of work into cultural context.

They help make sense of where a piece of art fits into society and think about why we made it.

And a reality TV dramaturg does just that for reality TV, because it is art too.

It's storytelling, just like every other form of entertainment.

And the characters we see on reality TV aren't any trashier or less complex than any other characters

and any other form of entertainment from plays to movies to operas.

They just have a different aesthetic, one that sometimes has more plastic surgery and

unexplained wealth than you or I have.
