Summary

For those of us listening to their incredible achievements and lovingly wondering about the drive of our own kids, we offer a delightful and hilarious poem by Billy Collins, former Poet Laureate of the United States called, “To My Favorite 17 year-old High School Girl”.

For this week's For The Good of the Order, I'm thinking about the power of this young generation

that we're going to be talking about on the next couple of podcasts.

So we went around the country and we found these kids who have that magical equality that

young people sometimes have, and it caused me to look back in time and think about who

really was behind something like the Civil Rights Movement or gay marriage.

These two huge social achievements that took decades of work to tip, and I'm sure you can

imagine why I'm thinking these thoughts right around now.

But it reminded me of this really kind of hilarious Billy Collins poem that I wanted

to share with you.

Billy Collins was the poet laureate for a while of the United States, and he and I have

done a few things together over the years.

And he writes some pretty delightful, super accessible and totally poignant poetry that I have

loved.
