Hi guys, this week's Thanks for being here is from a great woman who I used to pal around with

when I was young and lived in the Bay Area. Her name is Rebecca Goodman and this is her

bar mitzvah toast to her son Asher. Our dear Asher, from the earliest of your days on Earth and in

our arms, I found you charming beyond measure. There was just something about you. The intelligence

and humor in your eyes spoke volumes before you had words. And when the words began to come,

you were hungry for them to give shape and substance to all you were pondering. When you were

just three, I remember you telling me that the clouds looked like jellyfish and that you slipped

like a sled. In those early words, I got my first glimpses of your thoughtful embrace of language.

And when months later, you said to me, Mommy, when I say bad words, my heart feels sad. I

experience what it's like to allow my busy mind to fully pause and see my little boy's heart.

I'm not sure what those bad words could have been, but it's such a comfort to know that you use

your words not only to amuse yourself and the rest of us, but as a true vehicle for your worthy

thoughts and ideas and as a means to express the kindness and intelligence that is you.

From the very beginning, one of our favorite things to do was snuggle together and read.

There were so many books, a couple of your favorites were Runaway Bunny and Little Fur Family.
