Summary

Talking points: purpose, archetypes, trauma, perfectionism, abandonment This week, a shadow work session with an anonymous guest. If you've ever wondered what this kind of work is like, now's your chance to check it out. My guest today has already done some great work and has found drive and purpose, but something has kept him from taking action. As we work to find out what's going on, we learn about past events that laid a foundation of resistance. Note: there's some heavy stuff in here. You've been warned. This episode has also been edited for clarity and anonymity. (00:00:00) - Intro, what brought my guest in today, and the Guardian of the Threshold (00:07:09) - What's contributing to the overwhelm, and the guest's mother (00:14:30) - Going deeper and connecting with the somatic experience (00:21:57) - The connection between resistance and two events in the past (00:34:17) - We don't always need the full story in order to heal, and homework *** Build brotherhood in person. All right, my anonymous guest, how are you today?

0:13.1

I'm doing great, Connor. I'm glad to be here. Thank you for inviting me here.

0:17.5

Of course, likewise. It's a pleasure to have you here and your first time here, which is good just for the listeners that have been here. Of course. Likewise. It's a pleasure to have you here and your first time here,

0:23.3

which is good just for the listeners that have maybe tuned in some of the anonymous guests before.

0:27.8

This is a new conversation, which is going to be good. And why don't we just start with where I usually

0:34.4

start, which is tell me, tell us a little bit about what you're hoping

0:38.8

to address, to work on, to dive into. Well, my biggest issue, and it's been continuing

0:45.6

throughout my life, it's this fear of action, stepping into something that I need to be done. I tend to sidestep issues and work on things

0:59.4

I don't need to. So I wouldn't say it's laziness per se. It's just focusing on a stuff that needs

1:04.8

to be done in the moment to progress with my plan or my mission. And you have one of the things that we were talking about before we jumped on is that

1:14.9

you have done a lot of work around finding a deeper sense of purpose and mission in your

1:19.2

life. And that feels pretty clear to you now. That's right. Yes. Part of the issue for me was

1:24.0

trying to find that purpose in my life. And when I didn't have a purpose, it was much

1:29.6

harder to get work done. And I had to like self-medicate with alcohol and things just, just to get

1:36.0

through living. And now it's just just much, much easier to go forward when I found my purpose. And it's definitely much easier to focus in things

1:46.9

and work on life issues. But I still get distracted and I still feel like I can do more. I'm just

1:53.3

not moving at the pace I would like to. Okay. Yeah, I mean, this is such a common thing for guys.

1:59.7

Like this is, I feel like you're, you know,

2:02.7

you're talking about the core challenge that so many men have where it's like, I know the direction

2:07.6

that I want to move, but I kind of feel stuck in being able to do that. Or every time I go to take

2:13.5

action, even if it's something that I know I want to do to progress my business or my

2:19.1

career or my purpose, I find other things that get in a way, whether it's YouTube videos for
