Welcome back to the Lantern Rouge Cycling Club cast here with Benji Nice and as usual for a special once every four or five year or three year edition of the Olympics men's road race recap long stage two main climbs Fuji and McCuni the last climb is the most important one. I was in McCuni. It's steep. There's like three case 11% in the middle of it like seven case 10% all up and a descent and rolling like a really slow.

0:28.1

Taxing drag to the finish like 30 case 25 case long before yet before the finish so the question was favorite was Pikachu then well for not.

0:38.9

So favorite was raw which then even a pole so linear and Belgium but would a solo when to be able to get away I didn't wake up because the benefit of watching cycling races all year is I can figure out when to wake up and I didn't move from Australia to a micro landlock microstate to continue waking up at 4 a.m.

0:57.5

To wash off the race so I got up at 8 a.m. like a normal person so thanks for that true what happened to stop you just call me a normal person the race started off and it was the typical kind of stuff that you have at these events and we see Nick Luminy Michael Kirkel you rise again for slow vackey out sort of keys for Greece or Luis Auler grow soon Romania we've got all the more thing that's working off also and as I don't and that is for the Kenya.

1:25.2

As a region so a pretty large break we actually aid riders but not necessarily right as you expect to hold on for a while there's some decent climbing there with an Auler and with a Kirkel for example but the initial part was noticeable that in the peloton when the gap started opening up to was a great way there was no team that would take control because obviously you've got that teams are not with too many mates they can't exactly offer riders up one by one everywhere so here actively Belgium and Slovenia decided to.

1:55.2

We had to wait a bit at the start and the gap opened up to like 15 minutes and then Belgium took one of them on and put them at the front of the group started facing like mad for a bit and he stopped again because he was like okay I can't just do this alone and eventually we had to not need come to the front then to not need him on the map started facing for a while next to that some of the stuff happened as well we had great almost crashing also chicony and the same crash and we also said that the road which was going towards the medical car in the early parts of the race which is probably not the best thing you want to see at the start of the race and that was.

2:25.2

Basically everything for the dalshi road because we had the peloton pace a bit and the breakway pace a bit and the gap was maxed 20 minutes started going down again and when we started at the foot of Fuji we had around I'd an old 15 minutes left roughly and that's when

2:41.3

they took control and really hammered it. Still a large group I mean Thomas crashing again I don't know how many times his crash in last two months he had a tweet it's got to the point where he's like he seems kind of sick of people criticizing his crashing he basically said it was tailgate and hearts fall in front of him straight away on Twitter before the race it even finished I think

3:01.3

a few other notable things were Italy getting chicony to pace surprise by that maybe the crash course that maybe he didn't feel so good but I'm like chicony is better than

3:09.6

kneebley on this park course that was a little bit surprising to me but yet not too much happened really as classic World Champs or Olympics race with just a weak break in front and then everyone cruising behind so you know 20 minutes in front they weren't going too bad maybe Fuji I'll be

3:27.4

interested to see the power that it was still a really large group afterwards and it was cosner for our Benji like it can't have been that hard to pace after Fuji then there's this

3:36.2

undulating terrain he was pacing the break back we I think the next action was really even a poll attacking before calls in front pulled before the pace of

3:45.7

McCuny marked by kneebley and well in Kelvin was kind of getting moved as well but yes exactly and when you see that tree man group get

3:55.4

the way you know that it's a bit difficult because even a pool and kneebley they have a bit of a history dutch long tour two years ago they really weren't that well of a

4:05.0

friends we had even a pool attacking and every time that happened kneebley was like I'm going to hunt you down just because you're even a pool and they had a bit of beef in the media and right now

4:14.8

even a pool goes and the only person that responds is kneebley so I was like flashbacks awesome stuff but when they go into the attack by Belgian and kneebley

4:24.0

hard starts rising and beating harder but it quickly uh didn't really look like it was going anywhere because kneebley at a certain point just didn't take over anymore and when

4:34.2

even a pool has to do all the work then it's not going to happen and they eventually got caught again by facing in the other group which still had to

4:42.9

ethnic facing like that man literally faced how long a hundred came in this in this race yonther ethnic absolutely on the

4:51.1

rated rider we keep telling her and oh my god I'm so hyped about him like genuinely yeah and before we get on to the main part of the race

4:59.2

which is the group going to Akuni I mentioned our show partner for the podcast look all they've been supporting the podcast since this year

5:06.5

battalya last year and if you didn't pick up any kit during the two of France never fear they've just launched the new Bradley Wiggins look
