A gen who terrified all-comers, albeit in the most noble of ways, is calling it a day on his peerless career after 12 seasons,

three of which saw him walking away with the defensive player of the year. He said he'll retire at the end of the season.

We wanted a wonder is career by dropping this pod special of his appearance last year on the Men in Blazers show because, well,

it's symptom wonder. First of all, the origin story of his career, which is an inspirational tale.

Very much the road less taken tenacity in the face of challenge over and over again, a gently driven by his inner monologue is in a hunger that's fusible

with his love of football, our football, both Chelsea Football Club and his adoration of an admiration for the women's game,

which is connected in part of course to his relationship with his now wife, Kelia watt, Striker for your Chicago red stars.

And his old conversation is genuinely lovely and before I leave you with it, I want to read a JJ quote that's resurfaced of his life philosophy,

which JJ gave to Robert May in an interview back in 2014. He said, the way I look at it is that somebody in the world,

no matter what your field is, teacher, violinist, football player has to be the best. Why not me?

If I dedicate all my time, if I cut out all the other crap from my life, if I give everything I have to this game for 10 or 12 years, maybe it is.

And when I'm done, I'll go sit on my front porch with my buddies, have a beer and say, that was pretty cool, wasn't it?
