John 11: 19-27 - 'I am the resurrection and the life.'

Catechism of the Catholic Church Paragraphs:

- 994 (in 'The Progressive Revelation of the Resurrection') - But there is more. Jesus links faith in the resurrection to his own person: "I am the Resurrection and the life." It is Jesus himself who on the last day will raise up those who have believed in him, who have eaten his body and drunk his blood. Already now in this present life he gives a sign and pledge of this by restoring some of the dead to life, announcing thereby his own Resurrection, though it was to be of another order. He speaks of this unique event as the "sign of Jonah," The sign of the temple: he announces that he will be put to death but rise thereafter on the third day.

- 1001 (in 'How do the dead rise?') - When? Definitively "at the last day," "at the end of the world." Indeed, the resurrection of the dead is closely associated with Christ's Parousia: For the Lord himself will descend from heaven, with a cry of command, with the archangel's call, and with the sound of the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

- 439 (in 'Christ') - Many Jews and even certain Gentiles who shared their hope recognized in Jesus the fundamental attributes of the messianic "Son of David", promised by God to Israel (abbreviated).

0:00.0	Hi everyone. Welcome back to Daily Gospel Exegesis, where we take a look at the literal sense of the text from today's gospel reading.
0:20.5	Today is the Memorial of St. Martha, Mary and
0:24.9	Lazarus. These are the siblings that live in Bethany and you'll see in today's gospel story that
0:30.7	all three of them feature. This feast day actually used to be just about St. Mary, but now it includes Mary, Martha and Lazarus.
0:40.0	So let's dive into the text. John chapter 11, verses 19 to 27.
0:45.9	Many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to sympathize with them over their brother.
0:51.2	When Martha heard that Jesus had come, she went to meet him. Mary remained
0:56.7	sitting in the house. Martha said to Jesus, If you had been here, my brother would not have died.
1:04.7	But I know that even now, whatever you ask of God, he will grant you. Your brother, said Jesus to her, will rise again.
1:15.5	Martha said, I know he will rise again at the resurrection on the last day.
1:21.4	Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life.
1:25.7	If anyone believes in me, even though he dies, he will live.
1:30.9	And whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?
1:38.2	Yes, Lord, she said. I believe that you are the Christ, the son of God, the one who was to come into this world.
1:46.3	So there is today's text.
1:48.5	And the memorial of St. Martha, it's a really interesting one.
1:51.3	We don't often think about St. Martha much.
1:53.9	We often just think of the Mary and Martha incident where Martha has gotten a bit of a bad
1:59.6	reputation from that incident incident actually, because she
2:03.5	scolds Mary, as you know, and then Jesus seems to tell her off in that particular incident.
2:08.8	But here we see Martha in quite a different light, and there's not many feast days or special
